WHEREAS: |
The City of South Miami is proud to join with the families, friends and well-wishers of the Gold-Diggers, Inc., in celebration of its 25th Anniversary; and |

|
|
| |
|
WHEREAS: |
The Gold-Diggers, a non-profit organization, which was founded in 1976 is made up of 65 volunteer members from the South Florida area; and |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
WHEREAS: |
This esteemed association raises funds for various charities and annually writes, produces and performs a musical revue at the historic Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. The show serves as a learning tool, introducing many local, underprivileged youth to the joys of the performing arts; and |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
WHEREAS: |
The Gold-Diggers, which have received national recognition from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America as a one-of-a-kind fundraising organization, donated in excess of $800,000 to this worthwhile cause; and |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
WHEREAS: |
This special organization has also given The Food for Life Network (formerly Cure AIDS Now) in excess of $90,000 and The Blood Bank at Miami Children's Hospital a total of $50,000 thus receiving recognition as a Founder Member. |

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Julio Robaina, Mayor along with my colleagues of the City Commission: Vice Mayor Horace G. Feliu, Commissioners David D. Bethel, Randy G. Wiscombe and Mary Scott Russell, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, October 17, 2001 as: |
